What We Do

Affordable New Home Development Foundation

While most people wish to own their own homes, homeownership is not financially viable for many Saskatoon families. The Affordable New Home Development Foundation is a registered non-profit organization that was created in 1999 to provide housing opportunities, education and support to low- to moderate-income families that want to buy a new home, but for various reasons, are unable to so without some form of assistance.

The Foundation works closely with the professional home building industry, the financial industry, governments, and the community to design, finance, and build homes that are affordable. In the development of Foundation projects, local builders who share the vision of providing appropriate and affordable housing, have modified their thinking in terms of design and amenities to construct housing that is modest yet meets of the needs of the occupants.

Over the past 10 years, the Foundation has helped over 350 families buy new homes in various neighborhoods throughout the city, including Parkridge, Forest Grove, Lakewood, Confederation Park, North Park, Mayfair, Westmount, Silverspring and Willowgrove.

In order to deal with increasing land and construction costs, and to help a wider range of households, the Foundation is in the process of introducing alternative housing options.

The Affordable New Home Development Foundation is guided by a volunteer Board of Directors drawn from the community, the building industry, and other supportive organizations.
